Sunshine Learning Centre emerged from a heartfelt recognition of a critical need within the Bert Fox Community High School in 2009. At the helm of this endeavour was Rod Anardi, an administrator deeply attuned to the challenges faced by teen moms striving to balance their education with the responsibilities of motherhood.

 With a keen understanding of the hurdles these young mothers encountered in continuing their studies, Rod envisioned a space where they could receive tailored support to pursue their academic goals while navigating the demands of parenthood. Thus, the idea for Sunshine Learning Centre was born.

 Initially conceived as a teen centre within Bert Fox Community High School, Sunshine Learning Centre was designed to be a haven for teen moms seeking to further their education. Through Rod's dedication and the collaborative efforts of the school community, Sunshine Learning Centre opened its doors in 2009, marking the beginning of a transformative journey. From its inception, the Centre stood as a beacon of hope and opportunity, offering a lifeline to young mothers determined to defy the odds and pursue their educational aspirations.

 As Sunshine Learning Centre embarked on its inaugural year, it became clear that it was more than just a facility—it was a symbol of resilience, determination, and the power of education to transform lives. From its humble beginnings as a teen centre, Sunshine Learning Centre blossomed into a vital hub of support, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment among teen moms striving to create a brighter future for themselves and their children.

As Sunshine Learning Centre flourished and expanded its reach within the community, the original board members—Rod Anardi, John Okolita, and Carla Baber—worked tirelessly to ensure its continued success. Recognizing the need for a larger and more comprehensive facility to accommodate the growing demand for its services, the board embarked on a bold initiative to collaborate with the school board and secure the necessary resources for expansion.

 In a pivotal moment in the Centre's history, the board convened with the school board to discuss plans for subdividing the land and constructing a new, larger facility—what is now known as the Big Centre. This ambitious endeavour required extensive planning, coordination, and financial support, all of which were made possible through the dedication and strategic partnerships forged by the board.

 As the project gained momentum, the Dickie family and the Russell family joined the board, bringing with them a wealth of expertise and resources that proved invaluable in navigating the complexities of obtaining building permits and regulatory approvals. Their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to the Centre's mission were instrumental in overcoming obstacles and ensuring the timely completion of the Big Centre.

 As Sunshine Learning Centre continues to grow and thrive, the vision of expanding its reach to provide more quality childcare spots to the Fort Qu'Appelle community and surrounding areas is both inspiring and essential. Recognizing the critical need for accessible and high-quality childcare services, the Centre remains steadfast in its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of families and children within the community.

Expanding further to increase the availability of childcare spots represents a significant opportunity to enhance access to early childhood education and support the holistic development of young learners. The ministry approved more spaces in the autumn of 2023. By broadening its capacity, Sunshine Learning Centre can ensure that more families have access to safe, nurturing, and enriching environments where their children can learn, play, and grow.

 By investing in the expansion of childcare services, Sunshine Learning Centre not only strengthens its role as a cornerstone of the community but also contributes to the overall well-being and prosperity of families and children. As the Centre embarks on this exciting journey of growth and expansion, it remains guided by its core values of compassion, excellence, and a steadfast dedication to nurturing the potential of every child.
